Notes

  • Six progressive brackets for 2025: 1.5%, 3.2%, 4.3%, 4.7%, 4.9%, and 5.9% (top rate).
  • House Bill 252 (2024) restructured the brackets effective January 1, 2025 — the first major rework since 2005: it cut the bottom rate from 1.7% to 1.5% and added a new 4.3% middle bracket.
  • Married-filing-jointly, head-of-household, and surviving-spouse share one schedule; married-filing-separately uses exactly half of the joint thresholds; single filers have their own (NMSA 1978 §7-2-7).
  • New Mexico conforms to the FEDERAL standard deduction ($15,750 single/MFS, $31,500 joint, $23,625 head of household for 2025); the PIT-1 subtracts the same standard or itemized deduction claimed on the federal return.
  • The tax base is FEDERAL AGI; New Mexico-specific subtractions are not modelled: the low- and middle-income exemption, the $4,000-per-dependent deduction, the Social Security income exemption, and HB 252's revised net-capital-gains deduction. Itemized deductions follow the shared convention (no $10,000 SALT cap, state income tax excluded).
