Notes

  • The 2024 Special Session SB 1 (signed June 21, 2024) collapsed Kansas's old three brackets into TWO — 5.2% and 5.58% — retroactive to 2024 and unchanged for 2025.
  • The 5.2% / 5.58% rates are the same for every filing status; only the break point differs — $46,000 for married filing jointly, $23,000 for all other statuses. / 5.2%
  • Kansas sets its own standard deduction ($3,605 single / $8,240 joint / $6,180 head of household / $4,120 married filing separately for 2025); these are fixed statutory amounts, not inflation-indexed.
  • SB 1 replaced the old $2,250 per-head exemption with a flat allowance — $18,320 joint / $9,160 all other statuses — plus $2,320 per dependent, subtracted from Kansas AGI before the brackets apply.
  • When itemizing, Kansas applies NO $10,000 SALT cap and does not allow deducting state income tax.
  • Kansas conforms to the federal pre-tax 401(k) and HSA treatment, so its AGI starts from the federal AGI with no add-backs.
  • Not modelled: SB 1's full exemption of Social Security benefits (no Social Security field in the shared input) and the extra standard deduction for filers age 65+ or blind.
