Notes

  • Missouri applies ONE progressive rate schedule to all filing statuses; only the standard deduction varies by status. The 2025 top marginal rate is 4.7% (down from 4.8%), and the first ~$1,313 of taxable income is taxed at 0%.
  • Federal income tax deduction (Missouri's signature provision): individuals deduct their federal income tax liability times an AGI-based percentage — 35% of federal tax at MO AGI <= $25,000, stepping down 25% / 15% / 5% and reaching 0% above $125,000.
  • The federal income tax deduction is also capped in dollars: $5,000 for single / MFS / head of household, $10,000 for married filing combined.
  • The Missouri standard deduction conforms to the federal amounts ($15,750 single / MFS, $31,500 married combined, $23,625 head of household for 2025).
  • Head of household and qualifying widow(er) filers get an additional $1,400 exemption (MO-1040 Line 15) on top of the standard deduction.
  • Missouri has no personal or dependent exemptions (eliminated under post-TCJA conformity); the only subtractions modelled are the federal-tax deduction, the standard/itemized deduction, and the HoH additional exemption.
  • When itemizing, Missouri applies NO $10,000 SALT cap and adds back state income tax (Form MO-A, Part 2).
  • Not modelled: the new-for-2025 100% capital gains subtraction, the pension / Social Security exemption (Line 8), and the Missouri Working Family Tax Credit, because the shared input does not separate those amounts.
