Notes

  • Maine has three progressive brackets — 5.8%, 6.75%, and a top rate of 7.15% — with separate thresholds for single/MFS, head of household, and married filing jointly.
  • Maine ties its standard deduction to the federal amount ($15,000 single / $30,000 joint / $22,500 HoH for 2025) but phases it out linearly to $0 above a filing-status AGI threshold ($100,000 single/MFS, $150,000 HoH, $200,050 joint) over a fixed range.
  • Personal exemption is $5,150 per exemption (1 for single/MFS/HoH, 2 for MFJ), itself phased out linearly at much higher AGI thresholds ($333,450 single, $366,750 HoH, $400,100 joint, $200,050 MFS).
  • When itemizing, Maine caps itemized deductions at $36,300 (medical excepted), applies NO $10,000 SALT cap, and does not allow deducting state income tax.
  • Maine starts from federal AGI and conforms to the federal pre-tax 401(k) and HSA treatment, so its AGI needs no add-backs.
  • Not modelled: the refundable Dependent Exemption Tax Credit, Property Tax Fairness Credit, Sales Tax Fairness Credit, pension income deduction, and the medical-expense exception to the itemized cap.
