Notes

  • The District of Columbia applies ONE seven-bracket progressive schedule to all filing statuses (D.C. Code § 47-1806.03): 4% up to $10,000, 6% to $40,000, 6.5% to $60,000, 8.5% to $250,000, 9.25% to $500,000, 9.75% to $1,000,000, and 10.75% over $1,000,000. Only the standard deduction varies by status.
  • These rates and thresholds have been unchanged since the 2022 tax year.
  • DC 2025 standard deduction: $15,000 single / married filing separately / dependent, $22,500 head of household, $30,000 married filing jointly.
  • DC has NO personal or dependent exemption (it conformed to the federal TCJA suspension), so the dependent count does not reduce DC taxable income.
  • When itemizing, DC applies NO $10,000 SALT cap but disallows state and local income and sales taxes; real-estate property tax, mortgage interest, and charitable gifts remain deductible.
  • DC starts from federal AGI and conforms to the federal pre-tax 401(k) and HSA treatment, so its AGI begins from the federal AGI with no add-backs.
  • Not modelled: the high-income itemized-deduction limitation (Calculation F, a 5% reduction once DC AGI exceeds $200,000), DC credits (e.g. the low-income credit, EITC, child/dependent care), and Schedule I additions/subtractions.
